Roush Fenway Racing driver Carl Edwards wins his first All-Star Race – NASCAR news
The no. 99 Roush Fenway Racing Ford driver Carl Edwards has won his first-ever All-Star Race after six starts in the prestigious event.
He also won prize money worth 1.2 million dollars for winning the event.
The only mishap that he faced was when he slid down into the grass field on the front stretch after collecting the victory flag. He ran over the infield turf and damaged the front of his no. 99 Ford Fusion. In Edwards’ opinion, he drove over a drain, but
track officials confirmed that it was only grass.
Edwards said, “I had no idea that drain was there, after executing his customary celebratory back-flip to perfection. I guess NASCAR's mad, because they think we're hiding something with that car.”
The crew gave a fast and perfect pit stop to Carl Edwards during the last pit stop before the final 10 laps at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Pit Crew’s perfect timing shot Edwards back on the track in first place ahead of pole-sitter Kyle Busch. Edwards’ crew did lose the Sprint Cup Crew Challenge held on Thursday, but did a marvellous job on the event day when it actually counted.
The flawless timing made Carl Edwards the eighth different winner in the last eight events. It marks his first victory at All-Star Race form his six attempts. Now he has become the 19th different winner in a total of 27 events.
Edwards finished 0.443 seconds ahead of the runner-up Kyle Busch. David Reuitmann crossed the finish line in third position and was followed by Tony Stewart, Greg Biffle who completed the top five slot. Matt Kenseth, Denny Hamlin, David Ragan, Kevin Harvick
and Ryan Newman rounded off the top ten respectively.
While pointing towards his team members, Edwards said, “The key to winning this race are the guys behind me. Bob Osborne [Crew chief] and my guys -- especially the guys on pit road -- they could have dropped the ball. That's all the pressure in the world
on those guys.”
