Roush Fenway Racing driver David Ragan makes career best finish in Coca Cola 600 – NASCAR news
Roush Fenway Racing driver David Ragan was able to make his career best finish at second place in the Sprint Cup Coca Cola 600 held at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday.
Ragan said, “I loved it. I wish they all would have dropped out. I love it when they're checking up and dropping out. I wish the start/finish line had been a down a little further in Turn 1 and maybe we would have had a shot at getting Harvick.”
After the race, Carl Edwards approached the Roush Fenway Racing garage and inquired about Ragan’s fuel conditions. Ragan tactfully said the fuel was left for a few more yards.
He was completely exhausted after the 600-mile race that he could not even stand straight up right after climbing out of his car. Although tired, he did manage to pick up a tool dropped in the pit lane which was accidentally left by his crewmember.
Ragan said, “Not really. I won't tell you why I'm not surprised, but I think everybody knows. Nothing was stopped on the race track. I don't think anybody was in danger; everybody was moving. That's what makes it exciting. I can't wait to hear what everybody
has to say. This was one of the most exciting Coke 600s that I can remember.”
Ragan sat in the pit lane sidewall after finishing second at CMS in order to gather himself from the exertion. The unseen mishap occurred when Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kasey Kahne ran out of fuel in the last lap. The race was expected to see another yellow
flag but it continued and the leading drivers slowly lost the lead to race winner, Kevin Harvick and David Regan.
The fuel problem hindered Dale Earnhardt Jr. from breaking his 104-race winless streak and added one more frustration for him. Jr. was disappointed and his fans were left hopeless. Regan was aware of the effort put in by Earnhardt but he himself had to run
for his first victory in the series.
