Roush Fenway Racing driver Trevor Bayne to return for Nationwide Series – NASCAR news
Daytona 500 winner, Roush Fenway Racing driver Trevor Bayne will return to track at the Nationwide Series race which is scheduled for June 4, 2011 at the Chicagoland Speedway.
Trevor Bayne was forced to sit back from competing in the races after he was diagnosed with an insect bite. The first event he missed in the 2011 season was a Sprint Cup Series race held on April 17, 2011 at Talladega. The insect bite caused him swelling
and nausea. After the Sprint Cup Series race at Martinsville in early April he experienced numbness and impaired vision. Later after the incident he was taken to Mayo Clinic at Minnesota where doctors tried to identify the exact problem he faced.
There were no exact diagnosis about his ailment but Bayne is in a better condition now. His symptoms of illness are not there anymore. The Roush Fenway Racing team has now planned his comeback with the no. 16 Ford at next week’s Chicagoland event. He will
be the sole RFR driver in that Nationwide Series race. Another important plan for Trevor Bayne is to pilot the no. 21 Wood Brothers car in a Sprint Cup Series race in Michigan two weeks later.
Roush Fenway Racing president, Steve Newmark said, “By all standards Trevor had a great week. His symptoms have completely subsided. As a result, we plan to have him back in competition next week in Chicago, and have consulted with his doctors at the Mayo
Clinic and the NASCAR medical staff about that timetable.”
After recovering, Trevor did a test drive at the Virginia International Speedway. Having the fastest race car in the Nationwide Series, his team was pleased with his progress.
Steve Mark praised Bayne’s determination and said, “Although Trevor would have preferred to compete in all 900 miles this weekend, he respects and understands our decision and will shift his considerable focus to his return at Chicagoland next weekend.”
Bayne was eager to make his comeback at this weekend’s Charlotte event but the precautions are taken to not stress out the driver as he has just recovered from an illness. He has been restricted to race this weekend due to the length of the race.
