Roush Fenway Racing pleased with New Hampshire performance – NASCAR news
Jack Roush is a happy man as all four of his Ford Fusions put in a strong performance and finished in the top 8 at the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire.
Greg Biffle was consistent throughout the race and finished 3rd. Matt Kenseth, even after being spun by his own teammate Card Edwards, finished in 6th place. David Ragan finished 7th and Carl Edwards rounded
off a brilliant performance by the team with 8th place.
Before the race, Jack Roush had said that he was looking forward to New Hampshire and with good reason as well. In a race that turned into another fuel mileage crisis, all four cars made it comfortably to the finish line.
That is what Greg Biffle was most grateful about. He said that there had been a lot of races where the team had been running well but were unable to finish races and he was glad that nothing happened to the car during the race and he finished third.
So much could have gone wrong for the team but everything fell into place on a good day for them. On lap 174, Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth bumped into each other with Matt Kenseth almost slipping out of control. Kenseth showed great skills to regain control
and no major damage was done.
Edwards immediately apologised over the team radio and Kenseth said he was not too bothered about the incident.
“That was no big deal. I was having a little bit of brake fade, and I backed up extra early,” said Kenseth. “I just didn’t expect it or I probably could have saved it, but that was no big deal. Those things happen.”
Edwards felt that the team had come out with great results as he always felt that the racetrack was a tough one and one where he did not fancy racing too much. He said it could have been a worse finish but for a few racers who ran out of gas at the end to
give them a better track finish.
Edwards was also glad not to have caused any damage to Kenseth’s car and laughed off the incident after the race.
“I feel really dumb for running in to him, but I'm glad it worked out for both of us. It was a decent day for us,” he said.
The team now moves on to Dover International Speedway for the Kentucky 225 where they have a good record. Roush Fenway Racing have won 9 times on that track and will be confident of putting in another strong performance in Dover.
Carl Edwards was in the mood as he aimed a cheek at Matt Kenseth after the race.
“I feel pretty good after our [recent tyre] test at Phoenix, so we'll go [to Dover] and if Matt doesn't retaliate, we'll be really good,” he said.
