Rousimar Palhares declines Chael Sonnen’s sparring request – UFC news
Chael Sonnen, the former UFC middleweight champion, is again in the news but this time in an indirect manner as in a recent interview, Rousimar Palhares, the Brazilian middleweight pounder, has turned down Sonnen’s official request of aiding him in training
against Anderson Silva.
Silva will defend his title against Chael, the man from whom he took it in the first place, at UFC 148 and will headline the pay-per-view. The event will be televised live on July 7, 2012 and the octagon for the showdown will be stretched at MGM Grand Garden
Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.
The event will also witness Renan Barao take on Urijah Faber in a non-title three-round bout. Chael, who is famous for trash talking especially about the Brazilians might have now experienced that bashing the whole nation because of one man is not a good
thing to do.
Sonnen, 35, has been in a total 39 bouts and boasts 27 wins. The American belligerent has nailed seven of his opponents by knockout, four by submission, and 16 by either unanimous or split decision.
Chael has achieved much in his career and is considered as the second best middleweight after Anderson Silva in the whole of UFC. Anderson and Chael have been for the past few months bashing each other during the interviews, things started to get bit complicated
when Sonnen taunted the Brazilian nation.
Since then he has been bearing the brunt and has been vehemently whammed by the almost each and every Brazilian he meets. In fact the current incident in which Rousimar turned down his request is also being dubbed as the effect of the humiliating remarks.
Palhares when asked about the request simply commented, “He asked to train with me for Anderson but I’m not training anyone... Murilo said his coach has called him saying he wanted to come and train with me, but I said I won’t do it.”
When asked as to what was his reason, the ‘Toquinho’ Palhares did not pinpoint the Chael’s racist comments but simply said that his vote lies in Anderson’s corner. Rousimar commented, “I’m rooting for Anderson.”
Rousimar further added that he does not want to comment about Sonnen’s brash talking and remarked, “If he fights as much as he talks. Let’s see.” Chael’s training request to one of Silva’s friend can be dubbed a serious attempt in getting back the title
but before July 7 nothing can be foretold as the duo are equally competent and boast wins over many big names.
