Rousing Sermon heading for the $200,000 Grade 2 Robert B. Lewis Stakes on 4th February at Santa Anita
The winner of the California Cup Juvenile, Rousing Sermon is being pointed roward the Grade 2, $200,000 Robert B. Lewis Stakes on 4th February at Santa Anita for 1 1/8 mile, which serves as an important steppingstone for the
Grade 1, $750,000 Santa Anita Derby that will be raced over a distance of nine furlongs on 7th April.
On 29th January, the three-year-old colt of Lucky Pulpit out of Rousing Again, worked four furlongs in 47.2/5 seconds. He is preparing hard for his seasonal debut in the Grade 2 Robert B. Lewis Stakes on 4th February.
He is trained by the Hall of Fame Trainer, Jerry Hollendorfer, who said:
“He went real nice, so we’re all ready to go.”
Out of the six starts that the three-year-old made in the previous season, he won twice and was placed in the rest of the attempts. He got through with his maiden special weight on 5th June, 2011, and then finished third in
his next two starts.
In both the races, the Graduation Stakes on 3rd August, 2011, raced over five and a half furlongs, and the I’m Smokin Stakes on 5th September, 2011, raced through six furlongs at Del Mar, Rousing Sermon
faced defeat at the hands of Ruler of Dubai.
Rousing Sermon then won the California Cup Juvenile on 29th October, 2011 at Saratoga which was raced over 1 1/16 miles on dirt. This stands to be the only race on Rousing Sermon’s record that he raced on dirt till yet.
Both the next starts were at the Hollywood Park, and Rousing Sermon was positioned second in both the races. This time he fell at a disadvantage against Liaison, who won both the races.
The Real Quiet Stakes were held on 12th November, 2011 which were raced over 1 1/16 miles, and then the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity Stakes were on 17thDecember 2011.
It will be after a month that Rousing Sermon will race his debut, and would be a second time that he will race over dirt.
He will once again counter Liaison while the rest of the lineup comprises of Groovin’ Solo, Isn’t He Clever, Sky Kingdom, I’ll Have Another, Chips All In, Empire Way, Brother Francis and Blueskiesnrainbows.
