Rousing Sermon progresses toward the Kentucky Derby with a seven furlong work at Hollywood Park
Jerry Hollendorfer trained 3-year-old, Rousing Sermon is still at Hollywood Park preparing possibly for the Grade 1, $2 million Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on 5 May, 2012, and according to his trainer, the California bred will be shipped to Louisville
on 30 April, 2012.
Owned by Larry D. Williams, Mrs. Larry D. Williams, and Tree Top Ranches, Rousing Sermon posted his fourth work after his third place finish to surprise winner, Hero of Order, in the Grade 2, $1 million Louisiana Derby at Fair Grounds Race Course on 1 April,
2012, at about 1 1/8 miles.
Mike Smith was the jockey, who guided Rousing Sermon to a third place finish in the Louisiana Derby, but the veteran trained will be aboard the Grade 1, $1 million Arkansas Derby winner, Bodemeister, and Jose Lezcano has the riding assignment for, Rousing

The Derby bound son of Lucky Pulpit, worked seven furlongs at Betfair Hollywood Park on 21 April, 2012, and covered the distance in 1 minute and 27 1/5 seconds handily.
Out of mare Rousing Again by Awesome Again, Rousing Sermon prior to the 21 April work, worked three times over the Hollywood Park’s cushion track as he progressed toward the Kentucky Derby.
Rousing Sermon’s latest work was the longest out of the three, and this time he went out on the track without any company, according to trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, he came out of the drill good, and he is in good shape for the Run for the Roses.
"We'll blow him out once more at Churchill" before the Derby, Hollendorfer said.
With the graded stakes earning of $270,000, Rousing Sermon currently ranks 18th on the list, without too much victories.
As a juvenile, Rousing Sermon broke his maiden at first asking and then his fourth career start won the California Cup Juvenile at Santa Anita.
His second place finish to Liaison in the Grade 1, $1 million CashCall Futurity Stakes, Rousing Sermon never had to thrive much in his sophomore career accumulate earnings in order to earn a spot in the Kentucky Derby.
He started off the year with the third place finish in the Grade 2 Robert B. Lewis Stakes at about 1 1/16 miles to winner I’ll Have Another.
