Rousing Sermon to create a Killer Graces in the CashCall Futurity, Hollendorfer hopes
Jerry Hollendorfer is aiming to finish the season on a high, and the Hall of Fame trained after his Grade 1 Hollywood Starlet success with, Killer Graces, is aiming to take the Grade 1, $750,000 CashCall Futurity with Rousing Sermon on 17 December, 2011,
at Hollywood Park.
The 2-year-old filly, Killer Graces, path toward the Hollywood Starlet was a planned one, as she first went to run in the Sharp Cat Stakes, a prep race for the Starlet, over at Hollywood Park’s cushion track and finished second to winner Charm the Maker
on 13 November, 2011.
The Congaree filly then reversed the top two finishing order in the Hollywood Starlet as she defeated Charm the Maker to take the race.
Rousing Sermon has achieved the first part of the feat, as he finished second in the Real Quiet Stakes, a prep race for the CashCall Futurity, at Hollywood Park’s cushion track on 12 November, 2011, to winner Liaison.
The 2-year-old California bred son of Lucky Pulpit, out of mare Rousing Again by Awesome Again, Rousing Sermon is improving drastically every race.
He broke his maiden at Hollywood Park on 5 June, 2011, at about 5 furlongs with the winning time of 59.19 seconds in his first attempt. Then he went to Del Mar for two more starts where he finished third twice in the Graduations Stakes at about five and
a half furlongs and I’m Smokin Stakes at about six furlong. Both races were won by Ruler of Dubai.
Santa Anita was the venue where, Rousing Sermon picked up his first win in a stakes race in the California Cup Juvenile at about 1 1/16 mile on 29 October, 2011.
Ridden by Rafael Bejarano over the dirt track for the first time, Rousing Sermon posted an easy win to defeat Motown Men in second and Stoney Fleece in third with the winning time of 1 minute and 43.52 seconds.
Ahead of the Futurity, Rousing Sermon turned in work of six furlongs in 1 minute and 12 1/5 seconds on 11 December under jockey Joe Talamo, and he did all by himself which impressed Dan Ward, assistant to Hollendorfer.
