ok for a specific reason i want to hook my xbox ethernet cable directly to the cable modem but theres only 1 slot for an ethernet plug in the motorola cable modem and connected to the modem is a netgear router, is it possible for me to put the xbox's ethernet cable in the modems ethernet slot and the computers ethernet cable in the netgear router? and still be able to get online at the same time with both? i know this all sounds confusing because its alot of info but its really not but i do need the help and would really appreciate it! thanks!

  1. nope ,,your close ..plug the xbox in the ports into your router so all your devices can work on the intrnet....the router needs to be connected to the modem to recieve the connection for the internet

  2. Ok... i think i understand exactly what you mean... BUT i do not see any point at all in plugging your Xbox into the Modem when theres a Router you can plug into... which should be right beside it...

If the Modem only has 1 port, then plug the Router into the Modem, which will use up that port, and the Router should have 4 ports open that you can plug 4 things into... meaning that you can use that to put your computer, an Xbox, and 2 other things to connect to the internet...

If you want more than 4 things... then you can connect like a high speed switch to one of the 4 router points which would give you 4 more ports... because 1 of the router ports would be used then... that would leave you with 7 ports total to connect to the internet with...

Also, you can buy an Xbox 360 wireless adapter to connect to your router to connect to the internet with if you want to have your Xbox all the way across your house.... if you do this make sure that your Router has wireless capabilities...

AND ALWAYS... if your router does have wireless capabilities... PUT A WEP password on it... so noone can leech internet off of you.... and if they know what they are doing, someone can wirelessly steal files from you without you knowing if you dont set a WEP code on it...

    i hope this helps
