Router install problem...?

i just bought a router but the Ethernet port on my pc hasnt been working. so my problem is i cant install the router without an ethernet port. do you guys know of any ethernet adapters that plug into your usb or express card slot? its only going to be for the installation.

  1. Just buy a regular ethernet card and install it in an empty slot. You can get Ethernet card for about $15. You might have to disable the one in your system in the BIOS, but since it's not working, that might be moot.

    You can find card on line cheap, too.


  2. No "installation" needed.  Just plug in the modem cable and the power.  If you're going to be connecting wirelessly, you can administer the router wirelessly.  (I wish they'd stop putting CDs in with routers - there's no need for them, and they cause problems.)

    You do have to set the computer's wireless card up to connect wirelessly, but you use the CD that comes with that card for that.  (There are USB ethernet cards - linksys USB200M, for one - but you don't need one.)
