Question:

Router making the internet cutout/lag every few mins?

When one computer is plugged directly into the modem it works fine. But when the modem is connected to the router all 3 computers on the network lose internet for a few seconds, I’m not sure if it's losing internet or just lagging heaps but it does it every few minutes and everything freezes.

Also, some WebPages don't load.

The router was working fine with our old internet, but my sister reset default settings on the router after we got new internet. It's been playing up ever since.

The router is 'cable/DSL web safe router RP614v3'

What the problem and how do i fix it? Help?

  1. you need to configure the router to work with all 3 computers and make sure you set the bandwith high as it will cut your speed by 3 also its possible your ISP has put a limiter on your downloads if too much activity has been on your account

  2. There might be a setting in your router to "disconnect on idle" most often in the "general settings" or "basic" screen. this setting is set to 5 min by default. The reason you did not have this problem before could be due to your service provider sending update info to the router. This would make you never having an idle status. To get into your router settings type 192.168.1.1 into internet explorer address bar. Use "admin" without the quotes for the username and password.

  3. It could be a routing problem.

First you might want to check that you haven't got more than one device acting as a DHCP server. Then try re-starting things up in the right order, first modem, then router, then PCs.
