Hi I have a linksys router and just wanna see what stupid thing I may have over looked. I have a laptop that connects to the wireless router and a desktop. Recently the desktop connects perfectly and shows Very Good signal but can not surf the internet. I have checked the settings in the browsers, ipconfig'd and everything looked fine and connected, rummaged through the router itself and saw nothing wrong with the security settings, and I do believe all firewalls are set up to work fine with the router. I have to double check that since there was some random stuff done but just wondering if there is anything else I may have overlooked.

  1. Compare the DNS settings on the desktop with that on the laptop (using "ipconfig /all").

Can you get to the router from the desktop?

Can you ping the router by address?

Can you ping outside sites by name (try www.yahoo.com) or by address (try by name on the wireless to get the address)?

  2. On the Internet browser for the desktop, go to tools at the top.  From there go to Internet options.  Go to connections tab.  In the middle it gives you 3 choices.

    They are:

    1. Never dial a connection

    2. Dial whenever a network connection is not present

    3. Always dial my default connection

Click never dial a connection.  It should work.  If it doesn't, contact your Internet provider for help.  They should point you in the right direction, but I believe that this will work.

I had the same problem that you have.  I contacted my Internet provider, PSC, for help.  They told me to try this and it worked.

    Good Luck,
