Router question?

At my office I have 2 offices and the router and the modem (all wired) are in one office and there is a eathernet plug in in the second office the problem that I have is in the second office the plugin only has one space and I need to hook up two computers to it. Is there such a thing as an eathernet spliter (like with a phone) or how do I hook up the second computer so that it also has internet. Also is there something wrong with the router because sometimes we are only able to use one computer at a time on the internet and sometimes they all don't work but sometimes they do.

We do have a tech guy but he is really busy and never has time to come to our location and I need to get this working asap

thanks

  1. Yes, you can get from ebuyer.com if you live in Uk or US. I am giving you the link

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/60467

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/34455

the last one is called Belkin RJ45 STP Cable Economiser

and if you live in US try the us website for the same ebuyer.com

  2. buy a cat-5 cable with rj-45 connections. install another network card in one of them and use a shared connection. less than 30 bucks for the parts and easy to configure in windows 2000 up to present.

  3. If you are going to use a wired connection, you'll have to run a wire. You have a router which is the equivalent of the "splitter" you talk about. Another solution is to get a wireless router (if the one you have now isn't wireless) and use a wireless connection. The wireless routers have four wired ports.

  4. Try hooking up an ether net hub in the second office. wire the connection to the hub and from there you should be able to use two computers. You should be able to use two comtures with the router. try to reset the power for the router.

  5. i can come have a look at it

  6. Yes!  It's called a hub or a switch, and shouldn't cost more than $30 for a 4-port hub (1 in, 4 out).  You can get bigger ones, too.

You will need a power outlet to plug it into and one ethernet cable for each computer plus one to go from the wall to the switch.
