I was having connection troubles, so I did a power cycle. That's when I discovered that when I had my modem unconnected from my router, I was still receiving a wireless connection from it (under the same name). Is there anything odd about this? I'm confused.

  1. Well, There isnt anything odd about that. The router acts as a mini network hub. When your router is transmitting the wireless it is enabling computers connected to do normal network type things. In other words it works even if there is no internet connection, so you can still transfer files etc over the network but cannot receive internet if the internet is not available or connected.

So nothing to worry about then

  2. Nothing odd.. The wireless signal is from your router that receive by your device.. If you shutdown the modem that connect to your device, your router will stay transmitted.
