Question:

Router won't recognize Internet connection?

When I connect from the modem to the router, the router doesn't recognize it. When I do "192.168.2.1" the router's home page says "Status: no connection." This indicates that I am connect to the network, but I still have no Internet.

But when I connect directly to the modem, the Internet works fine. What could be causing this?

  1. After the modem is connected to the Router you will have to reset it in order for it to reassign the proper address.

If you are using DSL you will usually need to enter the connection info. into the actual router, most cable connections just require you to reset the modem after it is connected to a new device.

  2. You could try reseting your modem.  Should be a button the back you hold down for 5secs and then wait 10secs to connect your router.

  3. If you are running sometime of firewall this could be stopping you from accessing the Internet. You will need to change the firewall settings to add the router IP as a safe zone.
