my rover 200 wont start. i've had the distributor cap, leads, rotor arm and spark plugs replaced, cleaned off the earth connected to the battery and gear box and still no joy. fuel is definitely getting through and the immobilizer is off. It started by losing power when driving, the car just died. within 10 minutes it was running fine, then weeks later wouldn't start. any mechanics out there able to offer some advice????

i did manage to bump it once but i am not in a position to do that again. its parked up on a flat surface with no roll.

thanks...................

the engine is turning over but not firing.

  1. You say fuel is definitely getting through.  However if that is the Zenith Carburetor then it could be the mixture is all wrong.  Was there black smoke (too rich) when the car was running?  Another common problem that would be hard to detect is exhaust valves sticking open due to carbon deposits.  Did the engine ever misfire while starting?  Is the car used for only short trips where it doesn't ever get up to running temps for a considerable time?   I am assuming you are getting spark to the spark plugs.  If not you need to trouble shoot that problem back to the source.

If you are getting spark and proper fuel mix to the engine something should happen if your timing is right and the valves are going up and down.  Hope that helps.
