Rover Mulcher engine problems?

Question

I have a rover mulcher with a 5hp briggs, does the coil need an external power source to fire spark or does it do it itself???? if it does itself how does it?? any help is appreiciated

A magnet on the flywheel gos past a pickup coil(called a magnetron) and induces a small current which collapses rapidly(as magnet passes) to induce an extremely high voltage from the rapid collapsing of the  magnetic field
