Roving Lad dominant in the Ladies Day 9th August At Sligo Handicap Hurdle at Sligo
The Ladies Day 9th August At Sligo Handicap Hurdle will be hosted by Sligo over two miles and two furlongs on 23rd May. The race has attracted a line-up of sixteen four-year and older runners. The prize money set for the race is €4,830.
The leading entry for the race is Roving Lad, Vinnie Roe’s five-year-old bay gelding out of mare, Pellerossa. Through the four seasonal starts, he notched up to a win after ranking sixth in the seasonal debut and ending eighth in the very next race.
His third outing of the season was in the ‘Join The 2012 Sligo Race Supporters Club’ Maiden Hurdle on 6th May at Sligo over two miles and two furlongs.
The race was won by Pat Garrett but Roving Lad did not really make it an easy win while reeling in just at a length’s distance. He was riding with B. M. Cash.
The 11/8 favourite of the race, Alexandr Nevsky, finished fourth after Pennys Tune reserved the third spot.
He then scooped the seasonal win by claiming the Limerick G.A.A. Handicap Hurdle (Division I) at Limerick over two miles and five furlongs. Roving Lad took charge of the two and a half lengths after which Aviatore was the quickest to join him.
Cognomen settled third while 9/2 favourite of the race, Gentle Cloud, ended ninth on the field of eighteen.
The five-year-old has scored second at Sligo already and will not need to go over board for posting a second seasonal win through this race.
A note worthy entry who can prove to be threatening is Young Milly, Accordion’s nine-year-old chestnut mare out of mare, Reign Onmee. She has raced only once ever since the new season shot off and that too at Sligo but she could manage nothing impressive to show out of it.
Young Milly ended fourth in the 23Rd May At Sligo Handicap Hurdle on 6th May at Sligo over two miles and two furlongs. The race was won by Sorted who led the field by 2 ¼ lengths.
Finishing the closest was Our Ollie while Young Milly ended just before the 7/2 favourite of the race, Bobby John.
She has racing experience at Sligo while Roving Lad has triumphed recently.
