  1. No, it has not been done "many" times. It has been attempted 34 times since 1969. Of these, 12 succeeded, 19 failed, and 3 were lost at sea.

12 successful crossings since 1969 is exactly the same number as the number of humans who have walked on the moon since 1969.

    Not very good odds.

  2. I would start with something a little smaller.

  3. uhm, maybe try something a little smaller......like one of the great lakes......

Has anyone ever rowed the atlantic?

  4. a bottle of water

    a bag of peanuts

    and a bathing suit

and by the time you figured out its crazy you can drink the water, eat the peanuts and go for a swim

  5. You really don't have a clue about what is involved.  Those few people who have rowed it successfully, ALL had boats that were CUSTOM BUILT for the job... they didn't just jump in an open row boat with a bag of sandwiches and take off.

I seriously doubt you have ever even BEEN on the Atlantic in a small boat and even 50 miles off shore because it seems to me your attitude is very cavalier about that venture and there is a BIG difference between dreaming about doing something and actually EXPERIENCING it.

I have crossed the Gulf Stream on several occasions on my 38 footer and THERE IS NO WAY I would even consider doing it in a small row boat.

You will have at LEAST $100,000 invested in it, and probably that is a low figure because custom built boats aren't cheap.

  6. >>> but i hav no idea about rowing or boats.

Well there's your problem.  Those other people didn't just start rowing the ATLANTIC !!

    Good luck...
