Question:

Rowing a good sport?

I have the option to learn how to row and row as a sport. I've heard it is a good all-round sport but is it hard to learn? Is it all teamwork or can you go individually? The reason I ask is because I want to work my body into shape, as well as not make a complete fool of myself with shy social skills and sometimes unco moments.

  1. rowing is deffanitly a good all-around sport- good for your arms, endurance, not to mention abs! im sure you wont make a fool out of yourself too =]

  2. You can opt for sweep rowing, and that is done as a team. In sweep rowing, each rower will only have one oar (either port or starboard side). This is a team effort and it's beautiful when executed together.

Sculling is the other type of rowing that can be done individually or as a team. In scull rowing, each rower has two oars, one in both hands, port and starboard side.

Rowing is a great sport, and great for overall endurance training. You will get quite a work-out from this. I would definitely take advantage of the opportunity given to you to learn to row. You'll make some great friends and have fun while you're at it. Don't be scared or shy - there will be people there who haven't rowed before either, so you won't be alone!
