I am starting a one week rowing camp this morning, and frankly I have no idea what the sport is and how you do it and what you need? What should I bring and what I am gonna be learning? What parts of my body will it tone? Thanks.

  1. Well i guess its already too late to answer your question since you already started the camp today. Rowing is a great sport for toning every part of your body, i am a full time rower and am in the best shape of my life. Rowing is a perfect sport for anyone and is great fun. In my opinion you jut become addicted to the water once you truly learn how to row. If not on the water they will probably teach you rowing technique on something called the erg (ergometer) preferably a Concept 2 (best out there). Rowing provides a great cardio workout and builds up every major muscle in your body including your stamina. Have fun, hope you'll find a love for the sport and hobby as much as I did.

  2. Take some tight clothing (Lycra/Spandex if you've got any) as you won't want anything getting caught in the slide while you're rowing.  Bring suncream and sunglasses, plenty of socks and a few towels! Rowing's great for toning; you use all the major muscle groups in your body.  You'll learn, well, how to row; you'll find out when you get there.  Rowing is, essentially, moving a bout with one or two oars, attached to the boat.  You face backwards, and there is a slide and a moving seat for you to sit on; with this setup, you can use your legs to drive the oars through the water as well as your arms and body.  Look on www.ara-rowing.org for more precise details.  As I said before, you'll find out when you get there.  It'll be great fun!
