Roxanne Tammadge claims Women’s 800m freestyle title: Day four – 2011 All African Games
Day four of the 2011 All African Games saw the inspiring splash of Roxanne Tammadge at the Zimpeto National Stadium, in Maputo, Mozambique, on Thursday, September 8. The session of the meet conducted the Women’s 800m freestyle race.
In the corresponding swim, South Africa's Roxanne Tammadge powered the finishing wall with an inspirational time of 8 minutes and 54.64 seconds. While speaking about his swim, Tammadge stated that he was contented and pleased with his race. Roxanne further
said that he will be determined and motivated to carry on with his good form for futuristic events.
In the meantime, Rene Warnes of South Africa snared silver medal on the podium by posting an immaculate time of 8 minutes and 59.23 seconds. Seychelles' Shrone Austin took home bronze medal on the podium by submitting a stunning time of 9 minutes and 08.10
seconds.
Melia Mghezzi Bekhouche of Algeria earned fourth place honours in a time of 9 minutes and 10.99 seconds, while Raquel Lourenco of Mozambique settled in fifth in a time of 11 minutes and 09.75 seconds.
Earlier in the day, South Africa's Suzaan van Biljon secured gold medal in the Women’s 100m breast-stroke race with a winning time of 1 minute and 10.40 seconds, while Tunisia's Sarra Lajnef earned silver title in a time of 1 minute and 12.78 seconds. Zimbabwe's
Samantha Welch settled for bronze in a time of 1 minute and 15.39 seconds.
In addition, Tunisia's Taki Mrabet won the Men’s 200m breast-stroke crown with an inspiring mark of 2 minutes and 16.51 seconds. After the splash, Taki was happy and pleased with his swim in the respective meet. Wassim Elloumi of Tunisia secured silver medal
with a mark of 2 minutes and 18.58 seconds, while Algeria's Sofiane Daid snared bronze title in a time of 2 minutes and 19.74 seconds.
All the athletes took a huge round of applause from the crowd due to their impressive swims in the competition, while the winners were honoured with medals and accolades after the day’s session.
