Roxanne Tammadge clinches Women’s 800m freestyle crown – Day four: 2011 All African Games

Day four of the 2011 All African Games saw several intriguing swims at the Zimpeto National Stadium, in Maputo, Mozambique, on Thursday, September 8. South Africa's Roxanne Tammadge secured the gold medal in the Women’s 800m freestyle race, while South Africa
took home the Men’s 400m freestyle title.
In the corresponding Women’s 800m freestyle final heat, South Africa's Roxanne Tammadge hit the wall in 8 minutes and 54.64 seconds to retain the gold medal. In the corresponding race, Rene Warnes of South Africa secured silver medal on the stage by posting
a spotless time of 8 minutes and 59.23 seconds and Seychelles' Shrone Austin captured the bronze medal on the podium by posting a dramatic time of 9 minutes and 08.10 seconds.
In the meantime, Melia Mghezzi Bekhouche of Algeria was placed fourth in a time of 9 minutes and 10.99 seconds and Raquel Lourenco of Mozambique wound up sixth in a time of 11 minutes and 09.75 seconds.
Meanwhile, South Africa’s group of four consisting of Leith Shankland, Chad Le Clos, Gideon Louw and Darian Townsend powered the wall in just 3 minutes and 19.42 seconds to seal the gold medal. More importantly, South Africa beat their previous best mark
of 3 minutes and 22.52 seconds, set back in 2007. After the race, South African swimmers were ecstatic with their impressive swims in the respective meet.
In the corresponding splash, Algeria’s squad of Nabil Kebbab, Oussama Sahnoune, Jughurtha Bournalie and Ryad Djendouci secured the silver medal on the podium by submitting a captivating time of 3 minutes and 26.51 seconds and Kenya’s group of four including
Jason Dunford, David Dunford, Rama Vyombo and Kiptolo Boit took home the bronze medal on the podium by posting a striking time of 3 minutes and 29.84 seconds.
Senegal earned fourth place honours in a time of 4 minutes and 39.24 seconds. Nigeria was placed fifth in a time of 3 minutes and 39.66 seconds, while Angola earned sixth position in a time of 3 minutes and 41.82 seconds. Zimbabwe finished seventh in a time
of 3 minutes and 43.14 seconds, whereas, Mozambique was placed eighth in 3 minutes and 47.63 seconds. Furthermore, Zambia earned ninth spot in a time of 3 minutes and 57.52 seconds.
