Roxanne Tammadge wins Women’s 1500m freestyle title: Day six – 2011 All African Games
Day six of the 2011 All African Games saw several stunning swims at the Zimpeto National Stadium, in Maputo, Mozambique, on Saturday, September 10. In the Women’s 1500m freestyle final heat, Roxanne Tammadge claimed the gold medal. Meanwhile, Kirsty Coventry
of Zimbabwe took home the Women’s 200m back-stroke title.
Natalie Du Toit won the gold medal in the Women’s 200m Individual Medley multi disability event. Finally, South Africa secured the gold medal in the Men’s 400m medley relay event.
Initially, the Women’s 1500m freestyle title was taken over by South Africa's Roxanne Tammadge with a winning mark of 17 minutes and 03.22 seconds. In the corresponding swim, Melia Mghezzi of Algeria took home the silver medal on the podium with an impressive
mark of 17 minutes and 21.95 seconds. Seychelles' Shrone Austin earned bronze medal by submitting an intriguing time of 17 minutes and 27.76 seconds.
In the Women’s 200m back-stroke final heat, Zimbabwe's Kirsty Coventry snagged the gold medal with a triumphant time of 2 minutes and 12.40 seconds. Meanwhile, South Africa's Mandy Loots snared silver medal with an impressive mark of 2 minutes and 16.68
seconds and her compatriot, Natasha De Vos captured the bronze medal on the podium with a matchless mark of 2 minutes and 18.18 seconds.
Additionally, the Women’s 200m Individual Medley multi-disability final event was captured by Natalie Du Toit with a winning time of 2 minutes and 35.01 seconds, whereas, Kevin Paul picked gold medal in the Men's 200 Individual Medal multi-disability final
with a victorious mark of 2 minutes and 19.05 seconds.
Last, but not the least, South Africa's group of four, Charl Crous, Darian Townsend, Chad Le Clos and Gideon Louw took home the Men’s 400m medley relay title on the podium with a winning time of 3 minutes and 46.74 seconds. Algeria won silver medal in a
time of 3 minutes and 51.09 seconds, while Kenya grabbed the bronze title of the platform with an inspiring time of 3 minutes and 53.55 seconds.
All the athletes took a huge ovation due to their inspiring swims and the winners were honoured with medals after the session’s completion.
