Roxanne Tammadge wins Women’s 1500m freestyle title at 2011 All African Games: Day six - Recap
Day six of the 2011 All African Games saw the impressive performances of athletes at the Zimpeto National Stadium, in Maputo, Mozambique, on Saturday, September 10. In the Women’s 1500m freestyle final splash, Roxanne Tammadge took home the gold medal.
In the meantime, Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe secured gold medal in the Women’s 200m back-stroke race. Natalie Du Toit snared the gold medal in the Women’s 200m Individual Medley multi-disability event, while South Africa earned gold medal in the Men’s 400m
medley relay.
At the beginning, the Women’s 1500m freestyle crown was clinched by South Africa's Roxanne Tammadge with a captivating time of 17 minutes and 03.22 seconds. In the corresponding race, Melia Mghezzi of Algeria snagged silver medal on the podium by posting
an impressive time of 17 minutes and 21.95 seconds. Seychelles’ Shrone Austin took home bronze medal by posting a fascinating time of 17 minutes and 27.76 seconds.
In the Women’s 200m back-stroke final race, Zimbabwe's Kirsty Coventry took home the gold title of the platform by posting a winning time of 2 minutes and 12.40 seconds. In the meantime, South Africa's Mandy Loots secured silver medal of the podium by submitting
an inspiring mark of 2 minutes and 16.68 seconds and her fellow citizen, Natasha De Vos captured bronze medal by posting a perfect mark of 2 minutes and 18.18 seconds.
In addition, the Women’s 200m Individual Medley multi-disability crown was taken over by Natalie Du Toit with a captivating time of 2 minutes and 35.01 seconds. On the other hand, Kevin Paul took home the gold medal in the Men's 200 Individual Medal multi-disability
final with a triumphant mark of 2 minutes and 19.05 seconds.
South Africa’s team of Charl Crous, Darian Townsend, Chad Le Clos and Gideon Louw secured gold medal in the Men’s 400m medley relay with a winning time of 3 minutes and 46.74 seconds. In the corresponding meet, Algeria took home silver medal on the podium
by posting a matchless time of 3 minutes and 51.09 seconds. Moreover, Kenya secured bronze title of the platform by submitting a stirring time of 3 minutes and 53.55 seconds.
All athletes took a huge round of applause from the crowd and judges due to their exciting and motivated swims, while the winners were awarded medals and accolades after the session’s completion.
