The 58-year-old former Colombo cricketer, who has plenty of experience mentoring the emerging cricket teams, is eager to join the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Oman-c2975 cricket team. He told the media reporters that the terms of his agreement have not yet been finalized.
"I am eagerly waiting to take charge of the Oman national team,” said Dias while talking to the media reporters. “The exact terms [of the agreement with Oman Cricket] are being worked out,” he added further.
Dias' immediate assignment as Oman coach would be to get the side ready for the ACC Twenty20 Cup, scheduled to be staged in Nepal, in December this year.
"Once I take charge, I would like to get the boys to undergo a proper camp in Nepal in the build-up to the ACC tournament," said the Sri Lankan while giving the details of his plans for the Oman cricket team.
Oman, the winner of the 2007 ACC Twenty20 Cup, progressed enough over the past couple of years and was among the teams that contested in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup 2011 qualifier. The side however, failed badly in the competition as they finished
11th in the 12-team competition. The poor performance also saw them being relegated to the third division of the ICC's World Cricket League.
The 58-year-old Lankan will be coming to Oman after spending a decade with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nepal-c2965 cricket team. He said that he was aware of the fact that coaching in Nepal was quite different from coaching in Oman and is ready to face the challenge.
“I will focus on the system that I work in - training the national team while working on building a solid supply line,” said Dias. "I focus a lot on junior cricket, that's where you get good cricketers from, who you can groom,” he
added further.
Oman cricket will most probably announce the appointment of Dias in September, after both the parties reach out the terms of agreement.
