candidate for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684.
The Reds formally unveiled the Northern Irishman as their new gaffer on 1st of June, following their prolonged two week search to find a replacement for Kenny Dalglish.
The Scott was earlier relieved of his duties in May, due to the club’s dismal eighth place finish in the league during the last campaign.
Even though multiple candidates were linked with the Anfield hot seat during the selection process, the members of the Reds top hierarchy decided to go with the 39-year old, in view of his remarkable two year stint with Swansea City and his willingness to
stay at Merseyside for a long period.
Evans, who was the head coach of Liverpool from 1994 to 1998, voiced his comments in favour of Rodgers' appointment, but admitted that he will be a bit jittery going into his first day. He was also of the opinion that the ex-Swans boss will require some
time to successfully implement his innovative set of ideas at a new club, and develop a good understanding with the entire squad.
The Reds will play their 2012/13 season opener against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns on 18th of August.
Evans is quoted to have said: “Obviously it's quite daunting on your first day. From Brendan's point of view, he doesn't know most of the lads so he's meeting new people.”
However, on the positive side, the 63-year old thought that the Irishman has got ample time to prepare for the next season. He insisted that keeping in view the size and stature of Liverpool and all the expectations that have been set with him, it will only
be natural if he feels some pressure during his prefatory days.
Nevertheless, the Englishman acknowledged Rodgers’ achievements at the Liberty Stadium and could not help but express his admiration for his footballing knowledge. At the same time, he also drew comparisons between him and the club’s former managers.
He added: “It's time to go forward with a young man. I like the way he talks about football, he sounds passionate and he has a touch of some ex-Liverpool managers in him so far.”
Evans then said that Rodgers will have to make quick adjustments at Anfield in order to meet the totally different challenges than what he faced at Swansea and asked him to brace himself for testing times ahead.
