Roy Halladay fails as Milwaukee Brewers humiliate Philadelphia Phillies 9-0 – MLB Update
Roy Halladay had a miserable time pitching as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated Philadelphia Phillies 9-0 at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia on Tuesday, April 19.
The Phillies lost their first series, since the Major League Baseball season began, to the Milwaukee Brewers. It would have been acceptable if they had just lost to the Brewers by a run or two, but the Phillies could not even manage a single run against
Milwaukee. The Brewers managed to score an impressive 9 rungs against a pitching rotation that had Roy Halladay in it.
Randy Wolf pitched an excellent six innings as Ryan Braun and Casey McGehee belted out home-runs. That is all it took to beat Halladay and the Phillies for a shameful 9-0 on Tuesday. This is the second loss that the Phillies suffered against the Brewers.
Wolf allowed two hits during his pitches, managed to strike-out five and allowed three walks.
The Brewers were the first team to defeat the National League East leading Phillies in a series.
After Wolf’s departure Sean Green, Zach Braddock and Michael McClendon each pitched an inning.
Halladay definitely wasn’t his usual self, as within the duration of just over six innings he gave up six runs and ten hits which are very unlike him. Rarely does Halladay give up runs, let alone so many. His performance here is probably comparable to his
performance against the New York Yankees, which is his worst, sometime in June where he gave up six runs in six innings.
From the Phillies side, Jimmy Rollins hit a single in the first innings and Shane Victorino belted out a double on the third inning. These were surprisingly the only hits from the Phillies’ side for the entire length of the game.
Roy’s below average performance is a far cry from the complete game that he tossed just a week ago on Wednesday. His performance may have deteriorated because he had pitched 123 balls previously and needed rest, but since he got an extra day of rest due
to a rainout, the reason remains unknown.
Halladay did manage to retire two of the batters within the second inning but from then onwards, the trouble began. Yuniesky Betancourt doubled and George Kottaras hit a RBI single against him, which on one of Halladay’s better days would have been near
impossible.
Another run came for Milwaukee when Braun hit a shot towards right-field and continued impressing everyone as he robbed Rollins of extra bases and saved a run. Fielder joined him with a single and then later produced a two out RBI single. David Herndon wrapped
up the match with a three run shot.
