Roy Halladay reports right latissimus dorsi strain and is out for 6-8 weeks - MLB Update
Following examination, it is now confirmed that Roy Halladay endures latissimus dorsi strain and cannot return for at-least six to eight weeks. The news spells despair for the Philadelphia Phillies, as they are already battling with injuries to their premier
players.
With Halladay out, the Phillies are without an ace. His ability to throw shut-out games and pull off stunning victories have been critical to the success of the Phillies as a club, couple of years ago.
Ever since, he has joined the Phillies, their rotation has taken on a formidable shape. His presence unleashes shivers across the opponents and thus has been a real source of their dominance in National League East Division.
While the Phillies realise the potential cost, they will be pleased from the fact that injured starter Vance Worley is about to come off the Disabled list. Worley is no less a reliable option.
Before he was put on DL in the season, his performance had been exemplary.
On his return, he will like to continue winning games for the Phillies and make sure injuries to some of their players do not take toll on the ultimate results.
Phillies’ manager, Charlie Manuel believes that the club will survive successfully. He states that they will be using the existing strength to maximum, without looking upon outside options.
"Yeah, we can always use pitching," Manuel said. "I'm not telling (GM) Ruben Amaro to get another."
Although losing Halladay is a big blow, the Phillies boast galaxy of pitchers who are at-par with the best in the season, and therefore can easily neutralise any impact.
Cole Hamels has been near perfect and by throwing more than seven innings in number of games, he has led the Phillies to wins.
Apart from him, Cliff Lee has been consistent with number of innings thrown on the mound. Despite being unlucky for not getting enough support from offence, he has put excellent performances.
Unusually for Halladay, he was mediocre in the season and in every next game, his control was declining. He will be looking to take injury as a chance to re-write his fate in the season, on his return after eight weeks.
