Roy Halladay throws another bullpen session as he is all set to return after All-Star break - MLB
Making better than expected progress, the Philadelphia Phillies’ ace Roy Halladay is heading fast to appearing back in the season again. Following his first bullpen session on Friday, he builds on the confidence gained from there. He gives his arms another
opportunity to feel if they can withstand swift revolutions he is going to put them under in the days to come.
The best part of his recovery is the fact that his lat muscle behind the shoulder, which became the cause of outage from the season, is not troubling him anymore.
It seems, immediately after the Midseason Classic, he will be back in the Phillies’ rotation. For the club which is seeking saviours at the moment will grow ambitious on his return.
Expectations like throwing shut-out games, something of which he is so capable and putting the club on the path toward a play-off journey, are going to come as an afterthought to the Phillies’ fans.
Disgruntled fans are desperately looking for a silver-lining. The label of being a likely seller as the July 31 trade deadline approaches has demoralised them.
The Phillies' fans are generally accustomed to witnessing their side embracing glory. A Division Championship winner for the last five years, the Phillies are muddling in an unknown territory this year.
Meanwhile, Halladay is going to spend time in the bullpen more regularly now, after learning that he is largely immune to pain which may arise with a burden on the arms.
With few more sessions, he will head to Clearwater where he will throw in simulated games. He however will not be participating in rehab games as instead he aims to return to the season direct.
“I’d like to be back soon after the (All-Star break) as I can,” Halladay said. “This whole process, we’ve been going day to day, so there’s not really like a (target date). I think that’s a good way to approach it. If you get caught up with a set date, and
if you’re a little more sore than you anticipate, then you get yourself in trouble. I think we’ll keep going day-to-day. I feel good. I haven’t been sore yet. We’ll keep advancing it and get as close to getting in a game as I can.”
Irrespective of his return back in the rotation, it is going to be extremely difficult for the Phillies to become one of the hot-contenders for a play-off spot again.
