Roy Halladay to join Philadelphia Phillies on Friday after a scheduled leave - MLB Update
Wednesday night had Roy Halladay having his worst outing in the season as he blew a six run lead. Starter of his calibre spells a huge shock whenever an aberration occurs in performance.
Watching him crumbling on the mound was a rare scene the Phillies’ fans witnessed. After the game, he took leave due to a family-related issue and as per the reports he will return on Friday.
Speculations followed immediately as news of his withdrawal from the season spread. Some maintained, a sudden fall in performance had demoralised him to such an extent that he took few days-off on-purpose.
The fact a pitcher may prefer to take some time off to get rid of a ghost like feelings after a poor start may have fanned those speculations.
However as per the team sources, it was pre-planned and had nothing to do with his rough time on the mound.
Regardless of this, Halladay did take to heart those bloody moments. As can be spotted easily from his face after the game, his actions spoke louder than words. He was like wavering, being disgusted with himself and just looking on the way to suffer depression.
One of a plausible reasons being put forward is the heat he endured in Atlanta that led him to losing control.
Coupled with an onslaught of heat, a few poor pitches acted up as an addition to his already burning frustration and all this resulted into his complete mess-up on the mound.
For him, short-term memory loss is not going to happen as that outing has hurt him to the core.
“You always talk about short-term memory but you never forget those,” Halladay said. “It’s happened. You don’t forget about them.”
As Halladay joins the club on Friday, he will have a chance to shun an impression of him being on the road to decline.
By striking-out batters the way he has been doing entire career and restricting hitters with his fastballs, he can regain his lost form. The Phillies will be counting on him in light of their weak offence to make up for their deficiency.
He will be looking forward to return to his best as he comes back to the Phillies’ line-up.
