Roy Halladay will play rehab game for Class A Clearwater as he is set to return - MLB Update
The Philadelphia Phillies can brace for better results in the next half of the season as their ace Roy Halladay is set to return. On Thursday, he will throw in a rehab game for Class A Clearwater. If he can impress the management with his command and control,
he will be back, starting for the Phillies on Tuesday in their series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
However, all depends on how Halladay is going to prove his credentials.
The fact he threw well in a couple of bullpen sessions earlier, one can believe that he will be able to go through the rehab assignment comfortably.
Furthermore, under the supervision of pitching coach, he had pitched in a simulated game, which saw him taking breaks between spells. This also can go in his favour as he pitches on Thursday.
Meanwhile, on return, Halladay will be confronting various challenges. First of them is making amends for poor outings he suffered while playing the games before getting injured.
The games, in which he was roughed up and taken for many runs, will be on his mind. In particular, the high scoring match against the Atlanta Braves, in which most of their hitters struck homers off his throws, will not be lost on him.
Therefore, he has yet to reinforce the credentials he is known for, in general. Despite the fact he boasts a splendid career as a starter with many shut-out games thrown, a replication of them remains to be seen in the 2012 regular season.
In light of this, his first rehab game will be extremely important as a glimpse of what he can possibly do during the second half is on display.
Meanwhile, the manager Charlie Manuel will be eyeing his command and how consistently he can repeat his fastballs.
At the same time, Halladay is conscious of the fact that he has to be impeccable on Thursday. By striking-out a number of players in the game and keeping the hits to a minimum, he can earn a spot in the Phillies rotation right away.
Given the kind of experience Halladay possesses, one can be hopeful that he will be the winner for the Class A Clearwater. Furthermore, he will be able to convince the management of his preparations for the season.
