Roy Halladay’s misery in one of the highest scoring and weirdest games of 2012 season - Part 2
Perhaps, Halladay was disbelieving on his rough-up to an extent that a desire to restore dominance within a few throws lured him into taking to the mound again. Just as a soldier who will keep coming to reverse his failure in the battlefield, he had something
similar getting to his mind. Thus, one can call his failure as much of his own fault as that of his manager.
An end result is that a starter who has to become a saviour for his side drops in confidence and is prone to make an undue concoction of his failures. It is true that he belongs to a pedigree of pitchers that are adept at bouncing back from some of the worst
situations and that on their day, most powerful of the hitters bend down in fear before them.
Signs of drubbing on his face nonetheless after the match were so miserable, to say the least, that he will certainly take some time before breathing positives in his surroundings. For the same reason perhaps, one can put, he took a leave for few days, to
have few outings with his family, before sneaking into heart of the things again.
It was a nerve-packed game. In one inning, one team will reach a seemingly unassailable lead and right in next, the other will blow it. The moment fans establish certainty of their side winning the game, it will not sustain longer.
As if a farmer who will sprinkle herbicides on his fields and grow complacent, thinking the job done and insects will never appear again to ruin his crop. The Phillies will fight the Braves down and will sit back, assured of not being challenged again and
will begin pondering over excursions, believing in futility of thinking over the job at hand.
However, they will be left recollecting their senses, just as they meet a ferocious reply from the Braves. Their emotions will accelerate and their lethargy, which was accumulating in the process, will demoralise them to an extent of refusing in standing
up any more.
In a well-drawn out attempt, the Phillies will propel to the lead again and just when they can brag their dominance and dare for the victory, they will be humbled by the Braves once more.
The Braves can be crowned as a paragon of resilience, as it turned out in the game. Not discouraged by lengthening of the lead and not letting an imminence of penultimate inning influence their composure, it was an exhibition of sheer competency of their
offence.
It was one of those games which run flashing into the mind when one tickles nostalgia about baseball. Heart-throbbing and tantalising actions on the park, jubilation peaking in one side and funeral returning to other, everything was packed with sensations.
The game had a bit of everything that baseball can offer. One will see awkward moments in the form of players trampling over one another while ecstatic on success. One will experience hitters getting struck-out cheaply and fielders running after the base-runners,
making sure they do not get to their target.
While every day scores of games are played, only once in a blue moon a gem is produced, one that re-enforces beauty of the play. Regular season is underway and both the Braves and the Phillies are busy in their quest to record as many wins as they can, during
initial months.
Regardless of their chances in the season and whether they can lift themselves to somewhere into the play-offs or not, a pride of which they can never be robbed of is that they are a part of the game, which is among the best in baseball history.
