Roy Hibbert likely to stay with Indiana Pacers over the summer – NBA Update
The Indiana Pacers indicated earlier that they will like to keep the same roster for next season. Now a key component of the roster, Roy Hibbert, has indicated that he will love to stay with the team.
Hibbert’s ascent has coincided with that of Indiana. The Pacers were struggling in the 2010 – 2011 season and needed a change at the coaching position to see them reach the NBA Playoffs. This time around the team was much better under the stewardship of
Frank Vogel with Hibbert a key ingredient.
The 7-foot-2 centre became an All-Star as he anchored the Indiana Pacers and helped the side make it to the second round of the playoffs. His play is critical for Indiana’s gritty, defence first style that has proved so successful.
Roy’s contract runs out this summer, making him a restricted free agent. This means that Indiana can keep him if they match any contract offer extended to him by another NBA franchise. The player himself is happy to stay and indicated that he has left it
upon his agent to sort things out.
"I want to make sure that everyone knows I love Indiana," he said. "But as the process goes and we try to get something done, that's something I'm leaving to my agent."
Another key restricted free agent for the Pacers is George Hill, and the guard too believes that getting back to Indiana is the best option at present.
"Hopefully, all of us stay together, but we know the Pacers have some tough decisions to make," said Hill. "We just want to continue to play together and grow as a young nucleus."
Indiana Pacers head coach Frank Vogel, who has been credited with turning things around at the franchise, is enthusiastic about the future at the franchise. He was confident of keeping together the team and building on their success this season.
"I love our team so much, there's such a great positive chemistry and any time you see any of those guys, it just lights up," Vogel said. "We're going to get every single one of them (free agents) back. The Pacers are going to shoot for the moon."
