Roy Hibbert shines late helping Indiana Pacers overcome Washington Wizards 93-89 - NBA Recap
Roy Hibbert came up with a late charge to help the Indiana Pacers beat the Washington Wizards 93-89 at home in Indianapolis on Thursday night.
Indiana have had an unpredictable season as they have been going up and down with their performances from game to game. One game they are on the rise and the next puts them down in the slumps. This win at home will help them regain
confidence and has also improved their record to 31-20.
Danny Granger was Indiana`s leading scorer with 25 points. From the other side, Jordan Crawford managed to score 20 points for Washington.
In the early goings of the first quarter, both teams were going back and forth with the action. Washington opened the scoring with a simple drive layup by Chris Singleton whereas it took Indiana two trips to the rim to open their
account with a layup from Danny Granger.
A lot of lead changes took place during the first quarter as both teams were fighting very hard for it. Indiana looked more promising on offence and with the help of a late scoring charge from Granger, ended the quarter with a
4 point lead (30-26).
Granger managed to score 14 points for Indiana whereas Chris Singleton was Washington`s leading scorer with 8 points at the end of 1st quarter.
The second quarter was a closely contested affair with both teams going neck to neck with each other. Wizards managed to outscore the Pacers by 1 point 33-32 while Indiana held the overall lead at the halfway stage, 52-49.
Granger had 18 points for Indiana and John Wall chipped in 8 points for the Wizards at the half way stage.
The third quarter was a story of two runs. First, the Wizards started the quarter by going on an 11-1 run. This helped them take the lead 60-53. Indiana response however was swift and they made a comeback late in the quarter with
a run of 14-1. Both teams managed to score 20 a piece in the third quarter, while Indiana held the overall lead by 3 points, 72-69.
In the fourth quarter both teams were neck to neck till the closing stages of the game. With no team looking to back down it would have required something special to take the ‘W’.
Roy Hibbert was having a very mediocre game thus far - Indiana`s centre had only managed to score 2 points in the entire game till 4:34 remaining in the game. But, he came up big in the last 4 crucial minutes of the match, scoring
7 of his 9 points to help the Pacers beat the Wizards 93-89.
Danny Granger had an all round great performance with 25 points and 7 rebounds. David West contributed in well with 14 points and 8 rebounds for the Indiana Pacers. Nene had 16 points and John Wall netted 13 points for the Wizards.
