Roy Hodgson Looks Towards Steven Gerrard For Inspiration
Liverpool’s current form is abysmal and their manager, Roy Hodgson, is under immense pressure at the moment. However, Steven Gerrard is set to return to the team before this weekend’s match against Fulham, giving Hodgson a ray
of hope for the time being.
Tom Werner, the person chosen to be the owner of the club by New England Sports Ventures, has shown his disapproval with the current form of his club. Werner said that their form is unacceptable and they needed to improve their
results away from home. Liverpool has won only one match away from and lost 6 games, which is not a great form for a club of this stature. Last week, Liverpool lost against Newcastle United, at St James’ Park, with a margin of 3-1, which puts Hodgson under
more pressure.
Therefore, the manager wants his most influential player back into the side for the match on this weekend. Steven Gerrard got himself injured on International duty, pulling his hamstring, and has missed some important matches for
his team ever since, including a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa at Anfield. Liverpool has moved back in the top ten in the English Premier League though, but they are level on points with three other teams and another slip-up would take them to the bottom half
of the table.
Roy Hodgson told the press that Gerrard was back to the training on Tuesday. However, this did not mean that the captain would play the midweek UEFA Europa League match, as he needed some time to recover and get back into rhythm.
Hodgson said that Gerrard is determined to make a comeback in the team, before this weekend clash, which has enabled him to recover fast and do well in training sessions. Therefore, due to his will and determination the manager was sure that he would get his
player back before time.
There is no doubt that Roy Hodgson is under a lot of pressure in recent days, which is linked with the poor form of Liverpool. The manager was hoping for stability at Anfield, but as the ownership issue moved into the right direction,
the results failed to follow suit. This raises a lot of questions regarding Hodgson’s credentials and the manager desperately needs results to prove his critics wrong. Therefore, his desperation was apparent from his comments as he suggested that only Gerrard
could save his team from falling apart.
Whenever Liverpool is in a fix everyone looks up to Steven Gerrard for inspiration. The Liverpool talisman has been their source of inspiration for a very long time now and he has proved himself to be a reliable person as well.
In the past, Gerrard saved many matches for his team, including the incredible comeback victory against AC Milan in the Champions League final, and he is once again being called for a helping hand.
The only problem is that Steven Gerrard is not playing well at the moment, as he has yet to inspire in this season. In the 13 matches played by the midfielder, he has scored only 3 goals and made another 3 assists in the English
Premier League. Although, it is a good show for a holding midfielder, but at this point Liverpool needs more than this. Even these three goals have not made much of a difference for Liverpool, because 2 of these were scored against Manchester United in the
match that Liverpool lost by 3-2. Also, Gerrard has scored another 3 goals in Europa League but these goals came in a single match against Napoli. This shows that the Liverpool captain is not as influential as he should have been, this season, which is a very
bad sign for his club.
Hodgson is hoping that his player returns to first team and regains his good form as well. The manager needs to deliver results or else his future would be at stake. The owners want their club to move forward but under Hodgson
it is falling into further disarray, which might cause him to lose his job as well.
