With England managing to grab 4 points out of their first two fixtures, highlighted by a thrilling 3-2 win against Sweden, Hodgson admitted that it did not occur to him to appoint the vice captain of the team in the striker’s absence. However, after having
served out his 2-match suspension, he revealed that Rooney was the front runner for the vacant job.
He told the reporters in an interview, “We haven't designated one yet but he [Rooney] is very much a candidate. Quite frankly, with him not being available we haven't really felt the necessity before now to decide on that.”
“But we are very much considering him for that position, yes.”
The Manchester United ace plays as a main striker for the Three Lions. With Hodgson’s side looking to go a step further following their victory against the Swedes, the 26-year old is likely to appear in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749’s final group fixture against Ukraine as they
look to grab a place in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, Rooney was upbeat about his country’s chances of winning their first ever European title, and indicated that players from different clubs have developed a good understanding amongst themselves over the last couple of weeks.
He told the reporters, “You only have to go to the hotel to see the lads. You've got [Manchester] City players playing snooker with United players. Everyone's mixing, everyone's getting on well and there's a good chemistry between the lads.”
