West Bromwich Albion manager Roy Hodgson has revealed he believes Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas can turn things around at Chelsea if he is given time.
Villas-Boas is currently under immense pressure after http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 lost their English Premier League fixture against West Bromwich Albion 1-0 on Saturday. The defeat leaves the Blues stranded at fifth place on the Premier League table, three points behind fourth
place http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429.
Having gone through something similar while he was in charge at Liverpool, Hodgson is aware of the challenges Villas-Boas currently faces at Stamford Bridge. He was certain the young Portuguese manager could turn things around if he was given a chance.
Hodgson said in an interview:
“I sympathise and empathise with Andre but the day we coaches, who realise football has two sides to its coin, don't stand up for each other will be a sad day for football.
He doesn't need advice. He is a very successful manager.”
According to Hodgson, who was sacked as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 manager after just 31 games in charge, Villas-Boas possessed the talent to build a fantastic team but for that he required more than just a season at Stamford Bridge. The West Brom boss revealed he had observed
Villas-Boas’ former side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 and had noticed how brilliantly set up the team had been.
He revealed:
“He has come to Chelsea with high expectations and it has not started as well as he would have liked
But it is early days. To build a team takes time and there are no magic wands.”
Hodgson urged the fans and players to be patient and supportive of the 34-year-old manager, since it would take him some time to deliver. Patience has previously not been practiced with managers at Chelsea and if Villas-Boas is not sacked this season then
it will be the beginning of a new era at Stamford Bridge. Hodgson hoped that was the case because he was certain Villas-Boas possessed the quality to be successful.
Hodgson continued:
“If he is going to be successful, he will need time to stamp his authority on the team and given time, he will be able to do that.”
