Roy Hodgson does not wish to re haul after terrible midweek performance.
Liverpool's manager Roy Hodgson has admitted that most of the players on the Liverpool side, have a tough road ahead of them, to make up for the terrible display in the Carling Cup, which resulted in the team crashing out of
the tournament.
The manager has also said, that despite that fact, there won't be any dramatic reactions to the team's performance. This is because Hodgson feels that everyone should get a chance to make up for their mistakes.
Liverpool, who had previously won the competition on seven occasions, hit a new low when they crashed out to a League Two team, on penalties. This is also the team's worst result since 1959, when they lost out to Worcester City
in the FA Cup.
Hodgson opted to make eleven changes to the side that lost to Manchester United over the weekend, however seven of the players who started the Carling Cup match, were on the bench for the match at Old Trafford.
Players like Ryan Babel and Lucas were given an opportunity to prove their worth in the game, after being dropped down the pecking order by the manager. However they failed to seize their opportunity in the lime light and were
highly disappointing throughout the match.
Following the match Hodgson was reported to have said:
"I honestly believed with the players we had on the field, players with international and Premier League experience, we would be good enough to win the game"
"They have to do a lot of work to get themselves back into favour and I will learn an awful lot from this defeat about an awful lot of people."
"It is early doors for some of them - some are still quite young and were making their debuts - but I don't want to be drawn into making a bold statement."
"It is September. We have got this group of players until January minimum, maybe even longer."
"I am certainly not prepared to make the statement that I am going to suddenly start wielding axes."
"A lot of players will be bitterly disappointed they didn't take the chance they were given but they'll get other chances I'm sure."
"The players themselves will be looking to take responsibility for their individual performances."
"Those that come to the conclusion 'I could have done a bit more' I am sure will look in the mirror and take responsibility for that."
"But it is one game and there are lots more to play. I would expect these players to learn from their performance, bounce back and, if they are going to be Liverpool players, to kick on from this very low point in everyone's
career."
Whether or not this defeat will have a major impact on the players and the club's performances and mentality, will only be found out over the course of the coming few weeks.
The team has only managed to get a total of five points in the Premier League so far and are currently sitting in the sixteenth position in the league.
Everyone including the Liverpool manager expected the team to have a good run in the Carling cup, considering most of the top seeded teams were sent crashing out early on. However thar did not happened as Liverpool joined the
teams on the way out of the tournament.
If Liverpool want to hold on to their star players at the end of the tournament then, the team really needs to win atleast one trophy. The only trophies that they can realistically, even hope of winning now are the Europa League
and or the FA Cup.
If the team fails to do that, then most experts believe that the team will be loosing most of its superstars before the start of the next season.
