Liverpool’s boss, Roy Hodgson has finally been relieved of his duties. It was reported that Hodgson left the club by mutual consent just like his predecessor, Rafael Benitez. Former Liverpool player and manager, Kenny Dalglish has been appointed as interim
manager.
Roy Hodgson managed to lead the team to just 7 wins in the 20 games that they played under him. Liverpool are currently 12th on the table and have suffered 9 defeats so far.
John W. Henry, the new owner of Liverpool, issued a statement on the club’s official website stating that it was agreed upon by both parties that it is in the best interest of the club that they part ways.
Earlier, when Liverpool were beaten 3-1 by Blackburn, Hodgson was asked the question about his future, but he refused to comment. That was the 3rd defeat for Liverpool in 4 premier League games. The Reds are now just 4 points away from the relegation
zone, having spent some time at the bottom in the early part of the season.
Roy Hodgson was scheduled to address the media in a press conference ahead of the FA cup tie against Manchester United, but he cancelled it, which did suggest to many that the inevitable was about to happen.
A statement by Roy Hodgson, published on Liverpool's website is as follows:
"I have found the last few months some of the most challenging of my career. I am very sad not to have been able to put my stamp on the squad, to be given the time to bring new players into the club in this transfer window, and to have been able to be part
of the rebuilding process at Liverpool."
Dalglish, who is also an ambassador for the club, will take over temporarily for now, and will be in charge on Sunday when Liverpool travel to Old Trafford to play Manchester United in the FA Cup tie.
Dalglish has won 8 league titles with the Reds, first as a player and later as a manager. He was manager of Liverpool way back for 6 years, from 1985 to 1991. As a player, he was part of the Liverpool team that won three European cups.
Kenny Dalglish was not just a successful player at Liverpool; he was also ranked as the 3rd most successful manager for the club. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 owner, John W. Henry said that the club has confidence in Kenny, but, with the current state of the club,
he does not expect miracles from him all of a sudden.
John W. Henry said that there was a lot of respect and sympathy in the club for Roy Hodgson. He added that Roy was a very decent and honourable man and he did all he could to help the club with his best intentions. He went on to say that, at times, there
is just no spark between a particular manager and a club, regardless of how good he is, and that is what happened with Hodgson. Henry further added that he wished Roy Hodgson all the best and had no doubts that he would continue to be a successful manager
at the highest level.
Liverpool finished last season in 7th place under Rafael Benetiz, which was their worst finish since the inception of the Premier League. This season, they are lingering on the 12th spot with more than half of the season gone. It would
be an uphill task for Kenny Dalglish to lift the team instantly, but, considering the current scenario, he will not have too many expectations on his back.
