The former West Bromwich Albion manager who is now in-charge of the England national team is looking towards Rooney to fulfil the vice captain role in the English national team setup for the upcoming European Championships

Roy Hodgson has come out and hinted that he will look on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 as one of the favourable options for the vice captain’s role at the European Championships for the England national team. Rooney who is suspended for the first
three matches of the tournament over the summer might be a good option for the vice captain’s role given that he has matured over the last few years.
However caution can be taken from the incident which took place in England’s last qualification encounter against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Montenegro-c2959 where Rooney was sent off for reacting aggressively to a challenge from the Montenegrin defender. It was
a rare glimpse of the Englishman’s wild side which was much more apparent in his earlier years as a football at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043 and then especially at Manchester United as well.
Rooney also got sent off for England in the 2006 FIFA World Cup quarterfinals against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ricardo-Carvalho-c30973, a match that England went onto lose on penalty shootout. Hodgson is aware of other options as well
such as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joe-Hart-c18699 but it is believed that Rooney is the front runner for the vice captain’s role.
Hodgson stated, "The vice-captaincy is something we're considering. We're having to take it on a game by game basis but Rooney would come into the reckoning. We are at the end of a long season, particularly in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 where we
don't have the winter break. There's always going to be that risk.”
England were recently dealt another blow as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 midfielder was a victim of a hamstring
injury in training for the Three Lions which now means that Hodgson’s midfield options have been further shortened down, he was already unable to select the likes of Carrick, Scholes and Wilshere for one reason or another.
