Former Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson appointed at West Brom
West Brom have named Roy Hodgson as their new boss today after sacking Roberto Di Matteo earlier this week. Hodgson has signed a deal that will keep him with the club till June 2012.
"West Bromwich Albion are delighted to announce they have appointed Roy Hodgson as the club's new head coach. The 63-year-old former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Switzerland-c3016, Fulham and Liverpool boss has this morning committed himself to the club until June 2012”, the
club’s official website claimed.
Roy Hodgson, who parted ways with Liverpool earlier this year after a series of poor results, will be looking to resurrect his managerial career with the West Midlands side. The first and foremost challenge is to avoid relegation. He will be taking over
from next week while the care-taking manager, Michael Appleton, will be in charge for the game against West Ham at home.
Hodgson’s first match as manager would be a crucial game against Mick McCarthy’s Wolverhampton Wanderers. Both sides are fighting to avoid relegation and a win for the Baggies could be extremely important, and a terrific start to Hodgson’s career at West
Midlands.
Roy Hodgson had a couple of very successful seasons with Fulham. In the 2008-2009 season, Fulham finished 7th in the Barclays Premier League; this was the team's highest finish ever in the League. In 2009-2010, Hodgson was responsible for taking
the London side to the finals of the Europa League. Although Fulham lost the final against Atletico Madrid, Hodgson was awarded the ‘Manager of the Year’ award by the League Managers Association in 2010 for the superb year he had with Fulham.
Liverpool acquired the services of Hodgson after Rafa Benitez was sacked at the end of the 2009/2010 season, and the former Fulham boss signed a three-year contract with the Merseyside club. However, the manager had a disastrous start to the season, which
marked the worst start in 59 years for the Reds.
Hodgson was not able to establish himself amongst the Reds and was relieved of his duties after Liverpool lost 3-1 to Blackburn, being replaced by Kenny Dalglish. Hodgson left the Reds 12th in the table after losing 12 matches in the league and
with no chance whatsoever to win the League.
Only time will tell if the Englishman’s return as manager for West Brom is a success, like his days at Fulham, or an utter failure like his short stint at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809.
