Roy Hodgson pleased with his team’s spirited effort in derby loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers
West Bromwich Albion boss, Roy Hodgson, has praised his side for showing character despite losing out to Wolverhampton Wanderers in Black Country derby. The match took place on Sunday, May 8, at Molineux Stadium. The Wolves defeated the Baggies by a 3-1
margin which has gotten them out of the relegation zone.
Hodgson was upbeat even after the defeat and reckoned that his team’s inability to defend the corners led to the defeat. The manager also hailed the efforts of his striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Peter-Odemwingie-c29794, who has by far been the best Baggies player this season. The 63-year-old
admitted that his team were not up to it when it came to the defensive abilities but overall the team did show spirit and fight.
He also lashed out at his critics, who believed that West Brom were not really up for it and Wolves looked keen from the word go. The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 manager enthused, “People are going to go ahead and say that you weren’t at it and Wolves were, but those
people obviously didn’t watch the game, because anyone who had watched the game would have been more than aware than the team did its level best to get into the game.”
Hodgson mentioned that his team tried very hard in the second-half and were not really perturbed even after going a couple of goals down. He pointed towards some chances created by his team but were extremely unlucky as two of those hit the cross bar. The
former Fulham boss, though, admitted that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952 were great both in front of the goal and at the back. He further stated that his team still managed to get behind the opposition defence a number of times, which indicates the commitment they put in.
He concluded by saying, “We had a lot of opportunities in their box and did our level best to get back from 3-1 down, which I don’t think many teams would have done at this stage of the season when they’re safe and they’ve got the beach to look forward,
and there’s no question of that.”
West Bromwich Albion are currently 13th in the League table with 43 points. With just two games left to be played, Hodgson’s men will surely be plying their trade in the Premier League the next season.
