Roy Hodgson reaffirms Pacheco’s future at Liverpool; Hughes hopes Mark Schwarzer will stay at Fulham
Liverpool’s manager Roy Hodgson has come out and told Dani Pacheco that he has a future at the Merseyside club after reports suggested that the 19-year-old was on his way out of the English Premier League. Liverpool’s manager has
been criticized for not giving the young striker a larger role as far as the club’s first-team is concerned.
However, Hodgson explained the whole situation as he said, "He's been doing quite well. He had a little down period which I suppose coincided with the unfortunate Northampton game (a Carling Cup exit), when every one of the young
players was thrown in together. He stuck at his task and in training he's been doing very well.”
Roy added, "In the last couple of reserve games he's played very well too. It's nice to know he's still very much a part of the Liverpool future. He's unlucky in the position he plays, just behind the striker or in a wide role.
That's probably where we have most competition at the club right now. For a young player it's not easy to knock the likes of Joe Cole, Dirk Kuyt and Maxi Rodriguez off their perch.”
Hodgson praised the young Spanish star by saying, "Having said that, we still believe in him. We think he's a good player and he's got a very bright future. Of course there'll be lots of other clubs out there who want to take him
but if he really wants to be at the top level he might be well advised to keep learning his trade with these sorts of people around him, rather than to become a bigger fish at a smaller club.”
Talking about a possible start for Dani in Liverpool’s upcoming Europa League commitments, the ex-Fulham manager said, “I'm sure he'll be in the squad for the Europa League next week. I can't guarantee he will start but that's
certainly not beyond the bounds of possibility because he has done well enough recently to force his way back to our attention."
Roy also expressed his thoughts on Alberto Aquilani; the midfielder was sent on loan by Liverpool to Juventus in the summer. The Italian playmaker has exhibited fantastic form for the Italian giants thus far but Hodgson was adamant
that he wouldn’t be cancelling the ex-Roma man’s loan move earlier than anticipated.
Roy said, "No, I don't think there is any chance of doing that. The loan spell is quite clear. He's loaned out until the end of the season, so we won't be able to bring him back until the end of the season."
In other news, Mark Hughes, whose team lost their last league match to Fulham by four goals at home, has come out and stated his desire to keep Mark Schwarzer at Craven Cottage. The Aussie goalkeeper was linked with a deal away
to Arsenal in the summer but Fulham didn’t agree to a transfer fee which could have seen the move go through between the two London clubs.
Recently, Mark Schwarzer came out and elaborated on what had happened in the summer as far as his transfer move was concerned. Hughes said, “Mark is just stating what went on. We're hopeful he will commit to Fulham very soon. We
have had some good talks with his advisor. He knows my thoughts, I want him to stay." Regardless of whatever happens on the transfer front in the January transfer window, Schwarzer will miss Fulham’s fixtures in January as the goalkeeper will be away on international
duty with the Aussie football team as they prepare to play in the Asia Cup.
