Roy Hodgson trying his best to keep Anfield shining with stars
The Liverpool Football Club’s new manager Roy Hodgson has told that he is having a lot of trouble to convince the crestfallen stars of the club to stay for this season. He also admitted that it will be likely that most of them will make their transfers in the next week or two.
It has been speculated that world class players from the Reds like Fernando Torres, their skipper Steven Gerrard and the veteran midfielder Javier Mascherano will soon be departing after their former manager Rafael Benitez and Co. managed an extremely poor season.
The men from Anfield; fans and players had severe criticism for the departed coach and after he received information that he had just five million pounds to rebuild his squad he knew that his time with the Merseyside had ended. He then joined Inter Milan whose manager, the Portuguese Jose Mourinho, had left to join Real Madrid.
With Benitez’s, the Spaniard's, exodus the situation became direr and players wanted to leave Anfield as soon as possible. Now Hodgson has had a meeting with Gerrard who is still in doubts of leaving the club but the former Fulham coach has yet to speak to Torres and Mascherano who are still enjoying their vacations after the World Cup.
The rumours are rife that the star Spanish striker Torres is being heavily demanded by Chelsea who actually have made an unofficial bid rising to 60 million pounds for him. Mascherano on the other hand is likely to join his former manager Rafa at Inter Milan. Mascherano had earlier told that that he will be joining his former manager at the Italian club but the talks of the signing are still in progress.
Hodgson said that he is stressed because of the fact that his key players are leaving. These are not the only players that are on the list for the transfer but as a matter of fact Yossi Benayoun has already made his transfer to Chelsea and Ryan Babel is on the move too.
The 62 year old Manager stated, “We are working very hard on making certain the players we have at the club who you would call the 'good players' are going to be with us for next season:.
He also told that the Liverpool board was working very hard to convince the players that remaining at Liverpool will benefit them. He also informed that the main hindrance in the objective was to persuade them that Liverpool will prosper in the coming season.
Hodgson has not denied though that he would not like new players in the squad. He is trying his best to obtain new players with the funds he has and has just signed in the Serbian Milan Jovanovic and is about to bid for the Belgian Steven Defour.
The manager commented on the topic saying, “We are being linked with players left, right and centre and it amuses me that we are sometimes linked with players we haven't even heard of. I have great faith in the Liverpool public that they will see through the snippets of information they may read, take it with a pinch of salt and wait for an official announcement”.
Another player that is causing the tides to rise in England is Krisztian Nemeth who is with Liverpool currently. The Italian Club, Lecce, have planned to bid for him making the next week crucial for a new statement on him. The only glitch in the signing is by the 21 year old player’s agent who has reportedly advised him not to make a move just yet.
Tibor Pataky his agent told in a media, “He (Nemeth) wants to stay as a Liverpool player, and his wish is to be successful as a Liverpool player, if Liverpool will give him a chance to fight. If Liverpool say he can fight for a first team place, then he will do so. But if not, then he is happy to go for maybe half a season to another club on loan”.
