Roy Hodgson ‘wounded’ by Liverpool sack
West Bromwich Albion manager Roy Hodgson has admitted that he was hurt by his dismissal from the manager’s chair at Liverpool. The 63-year-old was sacked from his managerial position at Anfield just six months into the job.
Hodgson has spoken out for the first time about the events leading to his departure from Liverpool, claiming that his stint with the Reds was one of the most difficult of his managerial career. Under Hodgson, Liverpool endured their worst start to a Premier
League campaign in almost 50 years. The Reds found it difficult to break out of the bottom half of the table. Things went from bad to worse, and at one point, the club was floundering in the relegation zone.
Liverpool’s lack of results ultimately culminated in Hodgson’s dismissal. The 63-year-old is back in football though, after recently being unveiled as the new West Brom manager. However, Hodgson claims that his time with Liverpool has had a lasting effect
on him.
Speaking about his failed stint with Liverpool, the veteran manager said, “I didn't feel drained but you do feel wounded. I have had a very good spell in my career and it's a long time since I have had a very serious knock-back so, when it comes, it wounds
you.”
While Hodgson concedes that his pride has been hurt, he insists that his self-belief remains unaffected. He added, “You wouldn't be human if it didn't but it hasn't dented any confidence or belief. But I can't lie and say it didn't hurt me, or I didn't care,
because, of course, I care. I care very passionately about my job and I care about football.
However, the former Fulham and Liverpool manager will have to concentrate on his current job at West Brom. The Baggies are in dire straits at the moment, currently lying in 17th place. If Hodgson can somehow rescue them from relegation, it will
go a long way towards relieving the pain of his http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 wounds.
West Brom and Roy Hodgson face their next test when they go up against Wolverhampton Wanderers on 20th January.
