Roy Jones Jr, Denis Lebedev to clash on May 22 in Moscow – Boxing news
It has been confirmed that the 42-year-old, Roy Jones Jr. has finally agreed to the contractual terms to fight with Russian number one Light-heavyweight, Denis Lebedev for a non-title 10-round bout of 200 pounds on May 22, 2011 in Moscow.
The CEO of Square Ring promotional company, John Wirt who is the owner of that promotional company said, “We had some different things on the table. There were other offers to fight with Jones from the United States and Canada but the best and most attractive
offer was to fight Lebedev in Russia.”
Adding to this Wirt stated that, “Roy has no problem and no issue with going to Russia. We'll have fair judges and a fair referee. We've already been in contact with the Russian federation to make sure we know all the rules.”
If we look at former multiple world champion, Roy Jones Jr’s professional boxing record so he has lost his last two fights fighting against Bernard Hopkins in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2010 and Danny Green in Sydney in 2009.
Jones fought 61 of his total fights of which he won 54 fights, 40 wins came into his custody by way of knockout with 7 losses of fights.
Light-heavyweight, Denis Lebedev is one of the best fighters in the cruiserweight division. He has immense punching power to smash any fighter in his division.
If we look at Denis Lebedev professional record so we will see that he fought 22 of his total fights of which he won 21 fight including 16 wins by knockout and one loss of bout.
Although Lebedev has lost his last bout fighting against world boxing organization’s (WBO) cruiserweight champion Marco Huck last year in December. However, Lebedev was very impressive throughout his fight.
Lebedev is much better than Danny Green, who has easily defeated Jones through winning 1st-round knockout in December 2009.
It was expected that Jones’s next fight will be against Tomasz Adamek but the negotiations broke down because of Adamek’s decision to fight with an international boxing organisation (IBO) champion, Wladimir Klitschko in September.
Anyone can easily predict that who will be the winner of this fight because it was very brave decision made by Jones at this point because he is coming to fight just after couple of his disappointing fights. Secondly because he has now grown old so that
would be the ideal time for his retirement.
Another reason why this fight could be the tough one for Jones is that Lebedev is a quick southpaw and Jones has been found struggling against southpaws in his previous fights. So in that way Jones has increased his chances of losing this game.
No doubt, early in his career Jones has been impressive amongst the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world. Jones won “Fighter of the Decade” award in 1990s by the Boxing Writers Association of America.
Significantly, the down fall in James’s career was observed at the time when he lost all of his world boxing association (WBA), world boxing council (WBC), international boxing association (IBA), international boxing organisation (IBO) and Ring Magazine
Light Heavyweight titles fighting against Antonio Tarver in 2005.
It has been observed that Jones does not remain confident and he loses his potential very quickly as his weakness.
Most of the boxing critics, Lebedev is the favorite contender that Lebedev would prove to be the worst possible contender for Jones.
