I noticed in the fight with trinidad he used a winky wright type defense. Was he just using that technique for trinidad cause tito had trouble with winky wright? Is this his new style now? Also, Who is Roy's next opponent?

  1. He's defense is to run away from fighters.  Hide.

  2. Roy no longer has the reflexes to keep his hands down at his side, and simply move out of the way of his opponents attack anymore.  So he has switched to a high guard.

  3. Winky Wright used to be promoted by Roy Jones Jr.

Roy has lost some reflexes and quickness, so he is using the using the defense he employed when against the ropes, now as an offense - he's always been a counter-puncher, so this just opens that up.  I'm not sure he would use this style as heavily against a bigger opponent than Tito - but as he has slowed, he'll need a new tactic to win rounds.  This lets him better utilize his hand speed.

Whoever his next opponent is, they're in trouble.  You can tell that he's more comfortable in the ring than he's been in years.  If you follow is career you know that his performance was so hampered by weight issues - a couple years ago he said he couldn't understand why he was getting so fat, that he couldn't make 175 easily and looked drained in the ring - now he looks strong at 166-168, he's back to where weight isn't an issue.

  4. It's his new style. He walks forward with a high guard, draws the opponents fire, blocks their punches and throws his own combos when they're gassed or leave themselves open.

I heard he was signed to fight Jermain Taylor in June. Roy would have won that fight easily, but it looks like Taylor might have realized this and is now signing to fight Tito Trinidad.

Hopefully Roy will get a shot at the winner of Calazaghe-Hopkins. Calazaghe's style is made for Roy and Roy would win this easily.

  5. Roy does not have the reflex's anymore to get away with that "style" and I use that term loosely, and I believe that it is his new defensive style yes.
