Any more news on this fight? This would be a great fight for Roy and a good warm up to a future fight with Calazaghe. Is it definitely on? n.b. not quite sure what Taylor's camp are thinking of, as Jermain is obviously being set up as a patsy!!

  1. Roy would win this fight hands down! Either by knockout but surely on a desicion. He may be old for a fighter but he's way too fast for Taylor.

  2. This would be a good fight.  I would love to see it.

The Taylor camp "should NOT" be interested in this fight right now.  They need a bum of the week to help him get his confidence back.  If they take it and he loses to Roy, then that is 3 in a row and very damaging.

I hate to say it, but I don't the Calazaghe is going to give Roy a shot.  It's pay back time.  Roy would not fight Calazaghe in him prime when he was on top, now the roles are reversed.  Plus, since Calazaghe doesn't "really" have knockout power I think it would be a tough fight for him.  Roy isn't as fast as he use to be, but he is still quicker than most in the division.

  3. I'm a Taylor fan and for him to jump into a match with even this version of Jones would be a mistake, his confidence has to be down, he needs to fight a half decent fighter or two get back to where he was perhaps after the Hopkins' fights, this would be a good fight with Jones-Taylor but i'm not sure if the time is right for Jermain, he is not at the point in his career where he has to take Money Fights yet.

  4. Jones' is an excellent boxer, an excellent defensive fighter, and a strong puncher.

Taylor is a decent boxer, a decent defensive fighter, and a so-so puncher.

I think Roy would win this fight very easily, and he could choose in advance whether to win by a knockout or a decision.

I'm not going to hold my breath because I don't think the Taylor camp wants anything to do with Jones.  Jones is considered by many to be one of the greatest light heavyweights of all time.  Taylor has no comparable claim to fame.  He got a win in his loss to Bernard Hopkins in their first fight; he got a draw in his loss to Winky Wright; and he got a "double" in his two losses to Kelly Pavlik.

  5. i heard about this aswell.i really think taylor should avoid roy at all costs.taylor needs to fight a guy who he will definately beat,if he was to fight roy i think he would get ko`d, jones has much better hand speed than pavlik and i think this would be a problem for taylor

  6. This is the first I heard of it, it's a good fight for Jermain, Taylor's camp figures rightly that it would be a win over a recognized name to get Jermain back on track after the two Pavlik losses.  Roy is pretty much done as a world class fighter in my opinion and playing off name reconition for a few more paydays.  I don't expect a lot from Jones and would expect Taylor to win it if it happens.

That said I would be pulling for Roy, I have always been a huge fan of Jones and hope he doesn't end up like Evander.  The Greats always hand on too long, only Hagler and Marciano got out in time, the rest were ground down my boxing and life in general.  I don't like seeing old champions end their careers badly, but life is hard sometimes, and boxing for a living even harder.

  7. It would happen but it would not get as much attention as if Jones would fight Hopkins again, even though that would be a fight with two old fighters who should have fought 5 years ago. Taylor would get a good name if he did fight Jones Jr. but he did not look well against Hopkins and Jones is a little quicker then Hopkins, he is not as quick as he was in his prime but he is still fast. Right now it is still on the table and just being discussed at the moment.

  8. Roy should see if he can talk Pavlik into a fight at 168lbs- this win would be better for Roy's career!....................................

But Pavlik's camp will certainly steer clear of Roy Jones!
