Roy Jones Jr v Rocky Marciano who wins?

both in their prime, over 12 rounds.

Maraciano usually came in at 188lb and was 5'10". His lightest weight for a fight was 178lb.

Roy is 5'11" and has fought from 155lb to 196lb.

The fight can be at catchweight, with each fighter choosing the weight they think woud suit them best. I'd also be interested what weight you think they should come in at.

  1. Good question because RJJ possesed unnatural speed. Rocky had unnatural power, especially for his size. If they fought in a phone both Jones would be hurt quickley! But in a ring things would be different. Although Rocky had so much power, I think he would wear down Jones in the 9-12th rounds. I think Rocky could hurt Roy with shots to the arms, chest or anywhere he hit Roy.

I'm a big RJJ fan but I think this would be a bit more than Roy could handle. Rocky is afterall one of the greatest heavies ever.

  2. Rocky...188lbs

    Roy.......188lbs

Marciano would send him to the promised land. Rocky retired undefeated...how did Roy do.......

  3. Wow! Tough call on this one. I'll just give an opinion based on, if both fighters were fighting at 185 pounds.

I think if Roy Jones was to successfully kept his distance and use his speed, he would win fairly easily by decision in a twelve round fight. I think Jones would definitely fight comfortable at 185 pounds.

Rocky Marciano does possess the power to knockout Jones. The question would be, can Marciano catch Jones with something flush? If so, then it would be lights out for Jones.

A part of me wants to lean on Jones winning by decision, because in his prime, he was very difficult to hit. Knowing who Roy is up against, I think he would play the safety first approach, use his quickness to get in and out as fast as possible and cruise to an acceptible decision.

  4. Roy would get knocked out. He'd be too cocky and get opened imo. Apart from that Roy is far the more talented & skilled fighter.

  5. Your kidding.....the chin that Roy Jones does not have to the 15 plus rounders the old Rock used to fight.  Marciano would take care of him by the 6th

  6. Rocky only fight for 49 fights with one belt  while Roy fight 56 fights and hold 7 titles at the same time.

  7. I'm always amazed at the people who answer these questions when they talk about Rocky Marciano's undefeated record - its meaningless.

This would be a TOTAL mismatch, no one can watch film of the clumsy, slow, plodding Marciano and, knowing anything about boxing, pick him to beat Roy Jones Jr.

I know its different/difficult to match up guys from different eras, etc. but if you were to match these two up, Roy could come in at 168 and absolutely beat the h**l out of Marciano, how could Rocky even touch him, punching power is only a big factor if you can sit down on a punch and actually hit the other guy.  Marciano could never handle a good boxer with speed, and Roy's speed didn't even exist back then.  By the time Marciano figured out Roy's movement (which would be varying between rounds) the round would be up.

Roy would probably have him cut above the eyes and with a broken nose by the middle rounds.  At a certain point Roy may just carry him, but if not the doctor would step in and end the suffering.

Roy by TKO in any round you want after the 7th.

  8. Roy would wipe the floor with Rocky, speed and power is better than just power.

  9. Are you serious, I mean are you for real.......................................

I guess you forgot that Jones in his prime was almost untouchable!...............................

I guess you forgot that Jones in his prime was one of the fastest, if not the fastest fighter pound for pound of all time!

I guess you forgot that Marciano at his best was extremely slow with his hands and very easy to hit!- Marciano had very poor defense!...................................

Roy would exploit his poor defense, the hand speed would be way too much for Marciano...................................

Roy would knock Marciano out with several quick combinations in the 5th round- END OF STORY!

IN THE WORDS OF THE GREAT ROY JONES JR...............

    YALL MUSTA FORGOT!....................................

To Peter H- I guess we were answering this question at almost the same time- because I didn't see your answer at first.- anyway YOU AND I BOTH FEEL THE SAME WAY ABOUT THE GREATLY OVER-RATED MARCIANO!- HIS UNDEFEATED RECORD IS MEANINGLESS- HE NEVER FOUGHT ANY GREAT FIGHTER WHILE IN THEIR PRIME- ONLY WHEN THEY GOT OLD!

  10. Rocky would annihilate Jones----To quote the Brown Bomber---- " He can run...but he can't hide "

  11. I think Roy would win by decision using the same game plan as when he beat John Ruiz, (my apologies to Rocky for using Ruiz in the same sentance)  he would stick and move, he is way too smart to sit there and slug, or even be in the same place for more than one combination.

  12. It would only take one solid shot from Rock and it would be the Tarver fight all over again.  Roy Jones would easily win every round they fought, until Rock landed, then it would be over, that fast.

  13. roy is quick and i think would lay it on him

  14. marciano would end it by the 7th round...jones couldn't keep the rock at bay for the entire fight and eventually roy would succumb to the pressure.
